A few weeks ago we were contacted by a new customer to create a unique engagement ring, made with both 18ct yellow gold and 18ct white gold, to be set with a princess cut diamond. The customer worked with our in-house jewellery designer to create this stunning ring. The first step was to source the diamond, which is princess cut, weighing 1.21ct, colour graded H and clarity VS2. The design of the ring features shoulders that point out to match a plain gold band the customer will wear as a wedding ring. In contrast the head of the ring, where the diamond sits is made in 18ct white gold to bring out the white colour of the diamond and the band is crafted in 18ct yellow gold. The engagement ring has a contemporary look with its stylish rub over setting and pointed shoulders. The head of the ring, where the diamond sits has triangular gaps on all four sides of the square shaped, allowing more light through to the diamond for a deaper sparkle. Princess cut diamonds make the perfect choice for engagement rings. The shape and cut of the diamond was developed nearly 30 years ago by Basil Watermeyer of Johannesvburg. The diamond was first called the Barion cut. Now the shape of the diamond is called princess cut, it has a romantic appeal. In total the cut of the diamond has 58 facets giving it great brilliance and sparkle.
