A few weeks ago we finished creating this dazzling pavé set pear shaped halo diamond pendant with surrounding small round brilliant cut diamonds. The customer used our Create Your Own Pendant tool to select the setting style and diamond. We crafted the setting in 18ct white gold and added a 16 inch chain to the pendant which links through the top edge. The striking centre pear shaped diamond is GIA certificated, totals 1.00cts, has a colours D colour grade and is VSI clarity graded meaning the stone is only very slightly included. Any external blemishes or internal marks will only be noticeable through magnification. To create a vintage, look, we added pavé set small round brilliant cut diamonds around the tear drop shape of the centre stone.
About The Pear Shaped Diamond
The Pear Shaped diamond is often called the “Tear Drop” due to its shape. The cut is very similar to a round brilliant diamond and the long shape comprises the pointed edge of a marquise diamond and the curved corner of an oval shaped diamond. If you like fiery with lots of sparkle and flashes of colour and a sophisticated long length this shape is perfect for you.
Buying a Pear-Shaped Diamond
If you do go for a pear shape, it’s important that you get the highest quality grade you can afford in terms of cut, colour, clarity as well as a decent sized clarity grade. The shape and cut is prone to “the bowtie effect” if the shoulders are cut high or uneven. This effect can be seen on the surface of the diamond where a shadow in the shape of a bow can be seen, usually the result of light leakage due to a poorly cut diamond.
