A Stunning Marquise Diamond Eternity Ring
One of our favourite fancy shaped diamond is the marquise with its striking brilliant cut and long shape. So when a customer commissioned us to create a marquise diamond eternity
ring we were more than happy to get to work. Our first job was to source the 18 marquise cut diamonds set around the 18ct white gold band with all the same qualities like carat weigh, colour, clarity and cut. It’s very important with full set diamond rings like this to match the stones, especially with colour and carat weight so they are all the same size, with no yellow tint. We also had to make sure that the length to width ratio matched for the diamonds were all the same portions.
As you can see, we decided to set each diamond slightly to one side as the customer wanted a thin ring. Each diamond is claw set in 18ct white gold with v-shape prongs securing the stone on the top and bottom edges. This setting style is perfect for the boat shaped diamond shape. The marquise diamond is very unique, and the shape resembles an American football or a narrow rowing boat. The cut is similar to a round brilliant cut diamond but slightly modified to suite the shape. One of the reasons why we love the diamond is it long shape, which always has a tendency to make smaller diamonds appear bigger. The bad thing about the stone is the bow-tie effect – a dark shadow in the centre of the diamond caused by light leakage if the diamond is cut poorly. The classic recommended length to width ration to prevent the effect is between 1.75 to 2.15.
