The Biggest Briolette Diamond Ever is Set to Appear at Auction

Christies auction House in Hong Kong will feature the biggest briolette diamond that has ever appeared at auction. The Magnificent Jewels auction will kick off at the end of this month on May 28th. The stone its self weighs a huge 75.36cts and is part of a pendant, which also includes, smaller briolette diamonds on the chain and a purplish/pink marquise shaped diamond suspended above the main stone. The stunning briolette shaped diamond is graded internally flawless and has a clear colour grade D with an excellent polish – highlighting its beauty and rarity. The setting of the pendant design has been beautifully crafted in fashionable 18ct rose gold, with the whole thing expected to fetch $8.5 to $12.5 million at the auction house.

Briolette Diamonds

The diamond is a drop shape stone with triangular facets and is one of the earliest diamond cuts. Unlike all the other diamonds cuts and shapes, there is no table, crown or pavilion making it only suitable for pendants like the one above. You would mainly come across this style of jewellery set in antique jewellery from the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco eras.
