Princess Cut or Emerald Cut – Which Diamond do you prefer?

With so many different types of engagement rings up for grabs, if you don't know what you're looking for it's easy to get confused.

If this sounds familiar, learning about the 4 C’s of a diamond can really help you. The 4 C's stand for Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat. Cut is one of the most important as it dictates the whole look of the ring.

The Cut is essentially the shape in which the diamond has been carved from a rough stone into a faceted gem. The different cuts produce different styles and effects, from making the ring even more sparkly to giving it a vintage look or unique feel. Whilst there are many options, we're going to take a look at two of the most popular cuts in 2021. These are Princess cut and Emerald cut.

Which do you prefer?

Princess Cut

The Princess Cut diamond is one of the most loved engagement ring styles. From above, it’s a square style diamond, and from the side, it is cut down into an inverted pyramid. The  Princess Cut you see today was developed in the 1970, designed to reflect the light for optimum sparkle, maximising the light dispersion through its four bevelled sides.

This Solitaire Princess Cut Engagement Ring is a elegant and classic ring in a timeless style that is sure to bring out the Princess in you. The four-claw setting compliments the square cut, whilst protecting the sides of the stone. A traditional yellow gold band emphasises the bright, white radiance of the diamond – the perfect combination to really sparkle!

Emerald Cut

The Emerald Cut engagement ring oozes elegance and style. The timeless style is a true classic with a broad flat plane to highlight the clarity of the diamond. With a distinguishable rectangular shape it has small step-cuts that lead up to the flat, open top creating a ‘hall-of-mirrors’ effect. It was originally developed for cutting emeralds, hence the name, but looks just as beautiful for a diamond! An Emerald Cut is a pretty unique style and is one that lends itself to a sophisticated vintage aura, plus the longer rectangular shape creates the illusion of length on the finger, perfect for the glamourous lady.
