Does my diamond look big in this?
There are several clever tips to optimise your budget when buying an engagement ring. Here is how to make a modest diamond look bigger!
With 86% of women stating that the overall look of the ring is the most important factor, the style of the ring is the main thing to keep in mind when buying your engagement ring. To optimise your diamond there are several options you could go for. A thinner band would make the diamond seem larger, especially if you choose a band design that narrows at the point where it holds the stone. Another way to make the centre stone of your engagement ring seem larger is by adding side stones. A traditional option is to have 3 stones in your engagement ring, each stone represents the past, present and future. Adding side stones will not only enhance the centre diamond, but will allow you to add personal meaning. You can choose diamonds to complement and boost the centre stone, or precious gems in different shapes and colours to add your twist to your design.
Searching for a large engagement ring which won’t break the bank? Choose a cluster engagement ring with many small diamonds instead of a single large one to optimise your budget. It allows more flexibility with the ring design and shape and gives you the chance to pick a truly dazzling variation of traditional engagement rings.
Choosing the right setting
Halo engagement rings emerged in the 1920s and consist of a centre stone surrounded by a halo of smaller diamonds, usually between 0.25 and 0.35ct, depending on how large the centre stone is. The smaller stones surrounding the centre piece reflect more light back into the larger diamond, creating the optical illusion of a bigger centre stone. To maximise the halo enhancing effect, we advise adding a pave setting to your diamond engagement ring or choosing double or triple halos.
Shoulder set engagement rings feature diamonds set in the shank of the engagement ring. The paved diamonds reflect more light into the centre stone, making it shine brighter and seem much larger, compared to the surrounding stones.
To get the best diamond for any budget always choose a high quality centre stone with a lower carat weight, instead of a larger carat with lower grades. The cut of a diamond is the only characteristic you should not compromise on – purchasing a diamond with Excellent cut grade means that the stone is cut to perfection and has optimal fire and brilliance.
