Key Bridal trends for Spring/Summer 2018
As 2018 approaches, which Bridal trends are leading the fashion conversation?
We discuss some of the key looks for Spring Summer 2018.
Back to Black
Is Black the new white? Great news for those whose default choice is the LBD. Black was all over the Bridal Fashion Week runways, from black bow detailing to ostrich feather ball gowns and black lace socks. Adding a striking black accent achieves an edgier, modern aesthetic while maintaining an air of elegance and sophistication. For a real out of the box look, all over black gowns paired with striking jewellery exude forward thinking glamour.

Pops of colour
From dizzying florals to cool icy blue gowns, colourful wedding dresses scattered the Bridal runway. Cornflower blue proved a popular choice. This shade of blue has a miraculous way of flattering pretty much every complexion, from alabaster white to darker skin tones. Not to mention, your ‘something blue’ is taken care of. For the less traditional bride, bright and punchy hues stormed the runway and provided a refreshing palette against a sea of ivory. Bold floral gowns were seen in abundance, from detailed embroideries to textural applique (see detail trend).

It’s all in the details
3D floral applique can add an extra textural dimension to a classic silhouette. For this trend, go overboard with the details with an all or nothing approach. Ruffles, once deemed a girlish detail, can be transformed into high fashion drama, if added in excess. In this case less is NOT more. A deliberate dose of cascading ruffles, paired with a daring hemline or open back, is equally feminine as it is statement and bang on trend.
Pumped up volume was everywhere on the Bridal Fashion Week runways. Romantic Shakespearian shoulders graced the runway alongside explosive voluptuous skirts. Adopting the ‘Go Bold or go home’ mind-set is key for this Spring 2018 trend. From XXL skirts, huge oversized bows and statement sleeves, the emerging trend is an adventurous resurgence from the minimalist movement that has dominated the catwalks. The two key trends can be blended with a clean, pared back bodice and an oversized skirt with frothy, amped up volume.

A modern Bride
2018 is fast approaching, and an increasing number of brides are opting for pant suits, jumpsuits and separates for their big day. Embracing the tailored, form fitting silhouette, lace jumpsuits and pant suits achieve a streamlined elegance that some dresses just can’t rival. Feminine detailing such as pearls, intricate embroidery, ruffles and 3D florals ensure a balanced aesthetic, blurring the line between ladylike charm and cool, typically androgynous lines. Casual silhouettes can be cohesively blended with shimmering embellishments for the ultimate juxtaposition in effortless luxe.
