A Modern Rub-Over Pear Shaped Diamond Engagement Ring
Most engagement rings we make at Steven Stone feature the diamond set in metal prongs. This recent ring, however is made with a pear-shaped diamond held in a modern rub-over setting. A rub-over setting is an extremely efficient and ultra safe way of setting a stone. The setting is ideal for those with a busy, sporty lifestyles where the diamond is at more risk of getting knocked and falling out. Unlike claws, the metal is arched around the entire edge of the stone. For fancy diamond shapes, like this stunning pear shaped diamond a bezel, rub over setting will beautifully outline its shape. One thing you may find is the diamond will be less sparkly compared to a traditional claw setting where light can pass through the top, sides and bottom. For this particular ring we worked with the customer to source a quality pear shaped stone that would perfectly match their budget. In terms of colour and clarity the customer wanted the diamond to be the best and of the highest quality, so opted for a D, IF - meaning that the stone is completely colourless and internally flawless. In order for such a high quality GIA certificated stone to work with the customers budget, we had to lower the carat weigh to 0.48cts - just under half a carat.
