A One of a Kind Diamond Handbag Sells for Over £130 Thousand
A rare, one of a kind diamond encrusted handbag by Herms sold for over £130 thousand at auction last week to an anonymous bidder. The luxury auction included a selection of the world’s most lavish designer handbags including designs from Louis Vuitton and Fendi. So why would someone pay so much for a handbag? Well this isn’t just any normal handbag – it’s a red crocodile Birkin bag that features 18 carat white gold encrusted with diamonds on the front lock and hard ware of the bag. The bag was also originally made for actress Jane Birkin in1984. The diamond handbag bag exceeded all estimates and expectations of the auction and won the record for the most anyone has ever paid for a handbag at auction ever. The director of luxury accessories at Heritage Auctions - Matt Rubinger said: “This is an extraordinary example of one of the world’s most exceptional handbags.” The same bag minus the diamonds sold for around £50 thousand last year in London. It seems that the lucky buyer of this remarkable diamond handbag wishes to remain anonymous.
