A Rare 59.60ct Pink Diamond is Set to Sell for £37m at Sotheby’s

An exceptionally large pink diamond weighing 59.60 carats is set to sell for a whopping £37 million at auction in Geneva. David Bennett – the expert of all Sotheby’s jewels describes the stone as ‘one of the earth’s greatest natural treasures’. He also added how difficult it is to state the rarity of the pink stone, as it’s even difficult to express the rareness of a 5 carat vivid pink diamond. The pink gem is predicted to break records at the auction for being the largest monetary amount of money paid for a single pink gemstone at auction. The rare stone weighs a total of 60 carats and is a type lla gem named the ‘Pink Star’, and was also formally known as the ‘Steinmetz Pink’. The beautifully pink stone will hit Sotheby’s auction house in November and was mined at a secret location in Africa back in 1999. The stone was also the star attraction at one of the London Natural History Museum exhibitions of diamonds in 2005 and 2006.
