A few weeks ago we created this bespoke diamond ring for a customer. The ring is set with round brilliant cut diamonds, which have been uniquely cut down set on one side. The diamonds are set half way around the band in 18ct white gold. The customer wanted a thick diamond set wedding ring to wear with her white gold engagement ring. Cut down setting is a technique for setting stones by which the prongs are created from the shank. So unlike channel or pavé settings there is no visible strip of metal on either side of the stones. The most common use for cut down settings is on the shoulders of a thin diamond engagement ring band.
