Blue Moons and Rainbow Diamonds

Recently a billionaire businessman nicknamed “Big Lau” has spent £50 million on two super rare diamonds for his seven-year-old daughter. Property tycoon Joseph Lau paid a record-breaking £31.9 million for The Blue Moon Diamond, a "flawless" 12.03 carat natural blue diamond, which he has now renamed the Blue Moon of Josephine after his daughter.

In diamonds, rarity equals value. Normal diamonds are prized for an absence of colour but when a tint becomes even enough and strong enough to enhance the beauty of the stone it becomes a fancy coloured diamond. Fancy diamonds are incredibly rare and come in a spectacular spectrum of vibrant colours. The most sought after colours are saturated pink, blues, yellow and orange. In all cases, even very slight colour differences can have a big impact on value. yellow diamond ring The presence of other elements during the formation of the diamond will determine the colour. Boron forms blue diamonds and the presence of nitrogen lends a diamond a sunny yellow colour, to name but a few. At Steven Stone we are delighted to offer any your heart desires, along with a GIA certificate to guarantee the colour is completely natural. By Jenifer Rainford Mendez
