Sotheby’s Magnificent Diamond and Jewels Sale Totals $78 Million

Last week at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva, sales of diamonds and jewels totalled a huge 78 million. By far, the top lot was a stunning flawless, D colour, 27.9ct cushion cut diamond, beautifully set in a platinum ring setting. The diamond fetched $4.4 million, selling to a private Asian buyer. There was also a world record for fancy yellow diamonds, when a cushion-shaped fancy yellow diamond weighing 74.53cts sold for $2.9 million, this was also a world auction record for price per carat of fancy yellow diamonds. Other spectacular pieces included a light pink diamond and diamond necklace, which also has a detachable pendant set with two marquise diamonds. The light pink diamond weighs 6.93cts and is brilliant cut. The necklace fetched $2.3 million and is also set with a briolette shaped diamond weighing 11.38cts. There was also an exceptional, elegant pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings, which fetched $2.4 million. The matching earrings are from the collection of Hollywood star Gina Lollongbrigida, so undoubtedly sold for millions and set the record for pearl earrings at auction. Without a doubt this was a powerful auction full of desirable, rare diamonds and jewels.
