Trombino Bulgari Blue Diamond Ring is Set Top Its £1m Sale Price

The famous rare deep blue coloured diamond, known as the ‘Trombino Bulgari Diamond’ might make history this month when it goes up for auction. The fancy coloured 5.30ct diamond has an estimated sale price of £1 million, but is expected to fetch up to £1.5 million at Bonhams Fine Jewellery sale on April 24. The intense fancy deep-blue colour makes this an extremely sort after stone, infact one of the rarest in the world. Pure blue diamond’s of this quality are very rare and only account for 1% of all diamonds mined around the world. The stone is cushion shaped and is set horizontally in a platinum setting surrounded by round brilliant cut and baguette cut diamonds. This stunning ring was originally made in 1965 and now has the potential to break the world record price for fancy diamond. As stones like this don’t come on the market that, its sparked alot of interest. The director of Bonham’s, Jean Ghika said: "Blue diamonds, especially those over 5.00 carats, are extremely rare to see on the market and continue to be highly sought-after” Last September a similar fancy vivid-blue diamond ring set with two pear-shaped diamonds sold for £1.9 million – doubling its the pre-sale estimate.
