What is a Princess Cut Diamond?
The Princess Cut is one of the most popular diamond shapes and looks like a square version of the brilliant round cut. The design itself is similar to an inverted pyramid and when placed into the ring’s setting the diamond’s square appearance features clean, straight sides that helps create greater light dispersal, making it really shine. The cut itself doesn’t actually refer to the shape of the diamond, but rather the proportions, symmetry and ultimately how it looks from above. These factors all play a key part in the diamond’s brilliance and light dispersal, with rankings ranging from poor to excellent. However, at Steven Stone we only offer the top three grades: good, very good and excellent. In terms of origins, the princess cut is only a few decades old as the diamond style that we know and love today originated in 1979. The princess cut has a striking similarity to the round brilliant diamond and with 49 facets, the style can often be less expensive than others, without compromising on the magnificent sparkle.
