Which Engagement Ring Diamond Setting Style Should I Choose??

When we talk of an engagement ring setting, we’re referring to the way the main diamond on the ring is set in the metal to secure it in place. For engagement rings and most other types of jewellery pieces there are two main ways to set the diamond – these are The claw setting and The rub-over setting.

The Diamond Claw Setting

Diamond claw setting style The claw setting update `wp_posts` set `post_content` = as seen in the diagram above) is probably the most popular way to set a diamond on an engagement ring. The setting involves usually 3 or 4 claws/prongs that push over the stone to safely secure it in place. The thickness of the claws depends on the size and shape of the stone and can sometimes be double clawed. One of the greatest advantages of the claw setting is that it exposes maximum light to the sides and the bottom of the diamond. The down side is that the claws need to be regularly checked to make sure they have not been damaged by knocks as the stone could potentially fall out.

The Rub-over Setting

Rub-over diamond setting style The rub-over setting is more of a modern diamond setting and is the most secure ways to set a stone – perfect for those who live an active sporty lifestyle. The metal is arched around the shape of the centre stone to safely hold it in place and then soldered to a metal base. Although this setting style is secure it doesn’t allow light to the sides and the bottom of the diamond which can block the sparkle of the diamond. Now you know the two main diamond setting styles check out our online collection of diamond engagement rings.
