Engagement Ring Setting Styles

Learn about the different diamond and gem stone setting styles for engagement rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets in our detailed education section

Solitaire Engagement Rings

The Solitaire Engagement Ring setting gives a refined and elegant look, showcasing the diamond beauty. The setting was made popular in 1886 by American jewellers and is still a bestseller. The most popular diamond shape set into this style is the round brilliant cut. Solitaire engagement rings are available in 4 and 6 claw settings with twist variations. You can browse all of our solitaire settings, available in Platinum, 18ct White, 18ct Rose & 18ct Yellow Gold via the link below.

Shoulder Set Engagement Rings

Shoulder or diamond set engagement rings feature round brilliant diamonds set into the band. The smaller diamonds are fixed with either cut down, pavé or channel set styles. Descriptions of these can be found further down this page. This setting is particularly effective when matched with our wedding or eternity rings to add sparkle without distracting from the centre diamond.

Halo Engagement Rings

The Halo Engagement Ring style frames the centre diamond with smaller, round brilliant diamonds. This not only showcases the centre stone by allowing light to pass through, but also gives the illusion of a larger centre diamond. This setting is great for heightening the sparkle and “wow factor” in modest sized stones. All of our Halo Engagement Rings are in either diamond set or a plain band.

Three Stone Engagement Rings

Three stone engagement rings hold three diamonds that are said to represent the past, present and future of your relationship. Classically, the centre diamond is larger than the two surrounding diamonds, but settings with stones of equal size are growing in popularity. At Steven Stone we have both types of three stone engagement rings, which can be viewed via the link below.
