All you need to know about Emeralds before purchasing gemstone engagement rings and gemstone jewellery
Emeralds are part of the beryl group of precious gemstones and are the most valuable and precious of the group.
The incomparable shade of Emerald green is caused by traces of chromium and vanadium, which gives them the status as a well-recognised gemstone in fine jewellery.
Emeralds are used for their hardness and are often clouded by inclusions, which are not necessarily an imperfection, but show the difference between natural and synthetic stones.
Origin: Columbia, Brazil, Zambia. Madagascar, Pakistan, Russia and China
Colour: Vibrant Blue-Green to Deep Green
Species: Beryl
Hardness: 7.5 -8 on Mohs Scale
Birthstone Month: May
