A Rare Blue Diamond Has Been Discovered in South Africa

This rare 29.6 carat blue diamond has recently been discovered in the famous Cullinan mine in South Africa. The lucky discovery was by Petra Diamonds – a leading independent diamond mining group, who have said “This stone is one of the most exceptional stones recovered at Cullinan during Petra’s operation of the mine” The last blue diamond unearthed by the company weighed 25.5 carats and sold for a huge £10.3 million, so the stone has big expectations. The stone has an outstanding vivid blue colour and a clear clarity which will make perfect fancy blue polished diamonds made for important jewellery pieces.

So How Does the Diamond get its Rare Blue Colour?

This rare colour occurs due to the presence of Boron atoms and the more concentrated the more intense the blue colour will be. The exceptional diamond is set to be auctioned off in its rough form in the next few months. Watch this space....
