A Rare Fancy Blue Diamond Ring Sells For £1 Million

Last week in New York this stunning and extremely rare fancy blue diamond sold for a huge £1 million at auction. The diamond oozes beauty and elegance with its striking brilliant cut and long marquise shape. As you can see in the image above, the diamond has been mounted on an art deco style platinum ring, which is also set with banquette diamonds weighing 0.20cts, as well as accented single cut diamonds weighing 0.10cts. Fancy blue diamonds are one of the world's rarest coloured diamonds, and thiss particular one is highly sought after for its rare combination of colour, clarity, cut and shape - almost matching the world famous Hope Diamond. The diamond is also the largest of its kind ever to be offered by the auction house in New York. To illustrate the diamonds rareness, a GIA lab report in 2012 stated that the diamond had a natural fancy blue colour, and a potential internally flawless clarity grade.
